چکیده

HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) are chronic complications of HIV infection in the central nervous system. Clinical presentations include asymptomatic impairment (ANI), mild (MND), and dementia (HAD). In era combination antiretroviral therapy (cART), prevalence HAD has significantly decreased, but rates ANI MND have increased, impairing patients’ daily functioning, medical adherence, employment, driving abilities, risk transmission, overall quality life, posing challenges to society, economy, families, public health. This article reviews latest research findings regarding pathogenesis, clinical diagnosis treatment, neuroimaging, neuropsychological assessment HAND, aiming provide insights into prevention management HAND.

HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders: recent advances in pathogenesis, biomarkers, and treatment

HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) remain prevalent despite plasma viral suppression by antiretroviral agents. In fact, the prevalence of milder subtypes of cognitive impairment is increasing. Neuropsychologic testing remains the "gold standard" of diagnosis; however, this is time consuming and costly in a resource-poor environment. Recently developed screening tools, such as CogSta...

HIV Associated Neurocognitive Disorders

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 is associated with the development of neurocognitive disorders in many infected individuals, including a broad spectrum of motor impairments and cognitive deficits. Despite extensive research, the pathogenesis of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) is still not clear. This review provides a comprehensive view of HAND, including HIV neuroinvasion, H...

HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders

Currently, neuropsychological impairment among HIV+ patients on antiretroviral therapy leads to a reduction in the quality of life and it is an important challenge due to the high prevalence of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders and its concomitant consequences in relation to morbidity and mortality- including those HIV+ patients with adequate immunological and virological status. The fact...

HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND).

Neurocognitive impairment still occurs in the era of HAART, though its onset appears to be delayed and its severity reduced, while HIV-infected individuals live longer with the infection. HAND defines three categories of disorders according to standardized measures of dysfunction: asymptomatic neurocognitive impairment (ANI), mild neurocognitive disorder (MND), and HIV-associated dementia (HAD)...

Neuroimaging of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders

A significant increase in the incidence of cognitive impairment in HIV/AIDS patients has been continuously observed. Consequently, three classification categories of cognitive impairment have been proposed: asymptomatic neurocognitive impairment (ANI) and mild neurocognitive disorder (MND), that correspond to the mild and intermediate forms, and HIV-associated dementia (HAD) for the most severe...
